The Quiet Power of Compassion
As I grow, I’m noticing something beautiful: compassion deepens with understanding. The more I come to know myself – truthfully, tenderly – the more space I find inside for grace.
Not just for others… but for me. We often speak of compassion as something we extend outward – a gentle touch for someone else’s pain, a soft word for another’s struggle.
But real compassion – the kind that sustains and heals – must also circle back home.
Today, I’m giving thanks for the sacred practice of including ourselves in the very compassion we so willingly give to others.
- To speak to ourselves with kindness.
- To meet our inner world with care.
- To cradle our own disappointments with the same tenderness we would offer a dear friend.
Because when we do – something shifts. Our hearts stay open. We become more generous with others because we are no longer starving within.
It’s not self-indulgence. It’s self-respect. It’s emotional sustainability.
The truth is: compassion is a win/win/win. When we extend it inward, we free ourselves from the harshness of self-judgment. When we embody it outward, we uplift those around us. And when we live it consistently, we create ripples of love that move through the world long after we’ve walked away.
But we must choose it – again and again. In the face of frustration. In the moments where judgement feels easier. In the seconds between reaction and reflection.
Let’s practice slowing down the reflex. That quick flash of irritation, comparison, or disappointment – pause there. Soften there. Let compassion have the first word.
I invite you to be a good friend to yourself today. Choose gentleness. Choose forgiveness. Speak kindly. Offer grace.
Because in the words of Lao Tzu:
“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
Kindness in giving creates love.”
And when compassion becomes your baseline, the world begins to feel a little softer too. With love, Jx
With love,
