Change…Change…Change…

Have you noticed that when you need to or want to make important changes in your life, there’s usually a ‘dip’ in momentum and motivation?

I know this dip’ very well. It happens all the time when I’m seeking to transform aspects of my life. Change takes a lot of effort, focus, determination and pure grit!!!! It’s not easy, but it can be simpler to do. 

Here’s my response to a dear client who reached out to me as he’s seeking to take charge to align his world more closely with his core values, and make monumental changes to how he manages his business and life: 

James, this is NORMAL when you’re seeking to transform the way you operate in the world. You’re going through the dark night of the soul’ where your old self’ goes into battle with your emerging self’ as he doesn’t want to give up his position (ego/control). It’s all good….even though it doesn’t feel that way! This is a pivot point real change only happens when we’re forced to make it. Open your mind, your heart and your arms. Bring it on! 

Keep the longer term picture firmly in view this short term pain is simply part of the deal. Suck it up but take good care of yourself. You need to be eating well, exercising for at least 20mins every day and getting some sunshine on your skin for 10mins even if it’s just walking along the boardwalk with your sleeves rolled up during the day. Just do it. Good sleep is vital too.

Make sure you are audio recording instructions for your team so you start to build a resource of orientation and upskilling instructions. 

Keep pushing back and hold true to your position. Remember your bubble’ and the invisible line’. You are only responsible for your side’ and how you feel, think and behave. 

Your staff member is only wanting what she is entitled to and what’s fair. She’s just trying to put food on her own table and look after herself. Again, that’s just what people have to sensibly do. It’s not personal. 

Breathe! You’re doing well!!!!! You want to win the challenge… It’s a marathon, not a sprint. You got this. 

Remember to look up, smile and count the many blessings in your life. You have much to be grateful for. Always keep your mind and heart open, JT”
