What is Coaching?

Coaching has been used for decades in the sports world to turn gifted athletes into champions. This process is now used in the business (and wider) world as a progressive development tool to help people maximise their potential while maintaining or improving their quality of life.

In the coaching partnership, the coach takes on a combination of four distinct roles:

As a MENTOR the coach believes in you and helps you to create a vision of what it is you want to achieve and to clarify where you want to go.

As a MANAGER the coach increases accountability, insisting on strategies and actions to move you towards achieving your goals. They will help you to establish measurable targets and to monitor your progress along the way.

As a PERSONAL TRAINER the coach keeps you moving forward whilst remaining focused on the goals. Together you identify any obstacles and develop strategies for overcoming them. As a personal trainer your coach will keep you stretched as well as focused.

And finally, as a SPORTS COACH your coach notices the little details and supports improvement and perfection. They help you refine your game to get the result you want.

Why Coaching?

Today’s world requires us to do more with less resources, in less time. We are more often required to adapt to new situations and changing demands. I.e. the changing role of leadership now requires more effective people skills than ever before. People are juggling multiple roles, increasing demands, while trying to have more satisfying lives.

Coaching is solutions focused. A forward moving, action-oriented process which provides an opportunity for individuals to pause, reflect and review where they are heading. It provides individual attention, is consistent and increases accountability.

As a cancer survivor, she herself has faced more personal challenges than most to become a highly successful entrepreneur, and as a single Mum, she understands the challenges faced in balancing family commitments with a busy workload.

She has coached hundreds of executives and leaders to achieve massive personal and business breakthroughs. Her client list includes Roche Mining, Macquarie Bank, Origin Energy, Anglo Coal, Coles Myer, Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), McDonalds, Rio Tinto, Brisbane Airport Corporation, QSuper, The Australian Military, and the Queensland Government – to name a few.

Josie is passionate about helping people unleash the full force of their potential, achieve greater levels of fulfillment and create more sustainable ways of living, working and being. Her coaching is a catalyst for achieving momentum, action, measurable results and self mastery. She is passionate about inspiring others to see the world with a deeper sense of awareness, compassion, and love.

An avid learner, Josie has completed executive masters studies in the Neuroscience of Leadership, and Epigenetics. She is also a former VP of the International Coach Federation (Brisbane Chapter).

Having survived cancer twice, most recently a brain tumour, Josie is devoted to sharing the learnings from her experiences for the improvement in the lives of others. She supports people in overcoming their fears and stressors; encouraging them to connect with life and powerfully express their true and authentic selves.

A Brain-Based Approach to Coaching

Neuroscience has been gaining increasing attention in recent years and is providing some real clues about why change is so difficult based on a greater understanding of how our brains work.

Our brains are wonderful things, but they can get in the way of reaching our potential if we don’t have an awareness of what’s happening in there. The truth is, our brains are wired to protect us from danger. Big change can create a great deal of uncertainty and uncertainty to the brain is a perceived danger.

This is why we can sometimes get ‘stuck’ where we are. Our brains would much rather stick to what it knows and protect you than put itself and you at risk by taking a chance on change.

Having a coach to support you make the changes you want dampens down the threat response that naturally happens when we think about change and transition.

And having a coach who applies a neuroscience-based approach will help you to learn what’s happening, develop an understanding and awareness of the amazing potential and limitations of our brains so you can navigate around obstacles and move forward towards your desired outcome.

Coaching Programs

A coaching program consists of 12 x one hour sessions conducted either face-to-face or over the telephone/skype. Depending on the frequency of your sessions, you may meet with your coach once or twice a month (over a period of six to twelve months).

The coaching program includes unlimited email support, additional resources and assessments as appropriate, and impromptu ‘check-in’ calls (generally limited to 10 minutes unless otherwise agreed to).

90-minute Discovery Session

Spend 90 minutes with Josie Thomson or one of our expert coaches taking stock of your life and setting three goals that will excite you and have you moving forward powerfully in your life.

The Executive Program

Being an executive can be a challenging and lonely endeavour. In corporate culture, it’s certainly not deemed acceptable to reach out and ask for assistance or reassurance when you’re leading an organisation.

But executives are human beings that have the same needs as everyone else. Sometimes you just need an objective sounding board, or someone to depend on, challenge and stretch your thinking and provide the positive acknowledgement that you often don’t get as a leader in an organisation.

Josie Thomson understands the challenges that leaders face everyday. Her breadth of experience as an executive working in one of the world’s largest mining companies, and a coach working with hundreds of executives over the past 18 years means she is the perfect partner for busy, stressed out leaders.

The Executive Coaching Program is a 6 or 12 session series (typically held monthly) where leaders can safely and confidentially share their challenges, seek reassurance and get the support required to upsurge performance and results.

The Emerging Leaders Program

You’re ambitious. You’re hungry. You want to get to the top and you know you have a lot to offer, but maybe you’re sabotaging yourself with self-limiting beliefs or negative thinking that’s stopping you from breaking through to the next level. Or maybe you just want the support of a coach to help you reach greater heights.

Josie Thomson is an expert in shifting mindsets and removing the self-imposed barriers that prevent emerging leaders from reaching their true potential. You’ll gain a greater awareness of what’s getting in your way, learn how to think better, put an end to bad habits and build new and positive ones that support your growth throughout and well beyond the coaching series.

The Emerging Leaders Program typically runs for either 6 or 12 monthly sessions.

What to Expect After the Sessions

Client success doesn’t end when the coaching ends – the self-awareness, insights, and ongoing change strategies and structures developed during your coaching series will stand you in good stead moving forward.

Upon completion of a full coaching series, follow-up or ‘power’ coaching sessions are available on an ‘as needs’ basis to provide ongoing motivation, support and accountability.
