Yes, it’s that time of year again! Christmas! And as we wind-down the year that’s been, we still have an enormous amount to do and we can often lose sight of what the Christmas and festive season is all about.
So, here it is: inspired by a meme I saw on Facebook recently; instead of giving you another TO-DO list (which I’m sure you have plenty of already), what I’m going to suggest and talk about here is a TO-BE list. Sound good? Read on, or watch the video below!
Tip 1 – Buy Presents Be Present
This year, rather than giving presents, I’m going to suggest that we be present. Be present to those people you care about and that you love. More than any physical present, your physical presence is always what matters the most.
Tip 2 – Wrap Presents Wrap each other in a hug
Instead of wrapping presents, why not wrap one another in a hug. There is nothing more nurturing for the spirit this time of the year, especially for those who don’t have family and friends around them, than to give them the gift of your hug and your presence.
Tip 3 – Send Gifts Send Love
Instead of sending gifts to each other, how about sending love to one another?
Love is that thing that we all crave. It is something you can’t buy no matter how hard you try.
It’s a feeling. It’s a state of knowing that someone genuinely cares for you. So why not pick up the phone? Why not do something that really shows and demonstrates genuine care and concern for those who matter most to you?
Tip 4 – Shop for Food Donate Food
Instead of shopping for food, why not donate some food? Why not find a charity or a cause, or even a person on the street that you know would really appreciate an extra something that you can add to your shopping basket this week, that would really make this Christmas special?
Tip 5 – Make Cookies & Cake Make Peace
Instead of making cookies or cake, how about making peace? Is there a person (or people) in your life that you no longer speak to, that you would very much like to reconnect with?
Why not use this time of the year to reconnect and extend the leaf of peace? There are so many things that happen day to day that can create some turbulence in relationships with those you care about. And we all have a tendency unnecessarily hold on to past hurts and grudges.
So, this festive season, why not try forgiveness instead of judgement? Ask yourself how holding on to these grudges is serving you and if they aren’t, let go! Commit to reaching out to one person who has fallen away in your life that you miss and let peace be your guide.
After all, what do you have to lose?
Tip 6 – Go See the Lights BE the light!
Instead of going out to see the Christmas lights, how about being the light?
Be the light in your own life. Be the light so that others can also step into the spirit of Christmas.
At the end of the day what it’s really all about is being present, making peace, giving love and being the light for one another.
So from my heart to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and safe and prosperous 2016.
